Course Expectations
Physical Setting: Chemistry
General Rules and Information
Welcome to Chemistry. Here are just some guidelines and requirements to make this year go a little more smoothly.
Attendance
If you are absent it is your responsibility to come to see me for all the work you have missed. All assignments must be handed in or made up with 5 days of absence.
Assignments
Homework will be assigned every night. Homework is due the next day unless otherwise noted. You are allowed 3 late homework assignments the entire year. After these three, late assignments will not be accepted so do not waste them.
Tentative dates for tests and extended assignments will be given out at the beginning of each unit. There will be a cumulative quarter exam given at the end of each quarter. This quarter exam will be worth the same as two tests.
Quizzes can be given at any time! I reserve the right to give a surprise quiz.
All assignments, tests, and quizzes must be completed in blue or black ink. Assignments completed in red, green, etc will not be accepted.
Conduct
Since this is a science class, inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated for your safety, as well as the safety of others. ALL LABORATORY PRECAUTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES. There will be no eating (this includes food, drink, gum and candy) in the classroom or the lab room.
Respect for your classmates and teacher are essential to a productive learning environment. This is expected of all individuals in the room.
Remember….
· Kindness is a skill that will carry you far in life
· It’s nice to be important but it is more important to be nice
Lateness
Don’t Do it! You will need to be here every second.
Lab Reports
Lab reports are due every Tuesday and are graded on a 10-point scale. If it is handed in late a point will be deducted for each late day. At the end of this course you will be taking a New York State Regents Exam. To be eligible to take this test you need to complete and pass 1200 minutes of laboratory experiments.
The lab is not the place to be fooling around or conducting unauthorized experiments. If anyone is caught doing anything that may be hazardous to themselves or their classmates they will be asked to sit out that lab which could result in their not being able to take the Regents exam.
Classroom Material
You will need:
· A loose leaf binder or a notebook
· A scientific calculator
· A blue or black pen and a pencil
· Your reference tables
